The Practical Quilter is a new concept shopping experience for the New Zealand Quilter with the sole focus of offering the supplies and accessories needed to make amazing quilts, bags or other textile items.
Kia ora and welcome to The Practical Quilter. Thanks for popping in. This little shop may look cosy at first glance, but there’s a lot to explore once you step inside. With over a thousand listings and more than five hundred paper patterns from a wide mix of designers — including several you won’t find anywhere else in New Zealand — there’s something here for every kind of maker.
Everything on the shelves has been chosen with care. The range is generous, but it’s not crowded. Each tool, notion, and pattern earns its place by being practical, well‑designed, or simply a pleasure to sew with. You’ll find the popular favourites alongside fresh new designers and manufacturers who are starting to make their mark.
And if you enjoy cross stitch as well as quilting, you’re in good company. A growing number of our favourite quilt designers are now turning their hand to cross stitch, and their patterns have joined the shop too. It’s been lovely to see quilters picking up a needle and thread in a different way, trying something new without leaving the comfort of familiar designers.
This shop focuses on everything except fabric, which means the attention stays on the practical bits that help your projects come together neatly and without fuss. Accurate rulers, tidy notions, EPP supplies, bag‑making hardware, quilt patterns, cross stitch patterns — all curated to make your sewing time smoother and more enjoyable.
