The Practical Quilter
The Practical Quilter is a new concept shopping experience for the New Zealand Quilter with the sole focus of offering the supplies and accessories needed to make amazing quilts, bags or other textile items.
The Practical Quilter is closed for a short break from Saturday, 31 May 2025 and will reopen on Saturday, 14 June 2025.
Posting Schedule: We post Monday to Saturday, excluding public holidays.
Flat Rate Shipping: Updated as of 8 July 2024, we use NZ Post tracked services with a flat rate of $8.00 throughout New Zealand, including rural delivery (RD).
Free Postage for Patterns: All patterns are sent free via NZ Post letter rate (not tracked). If you prefer another method, the $8.00 flat rate applies. Conditions:
Generally, up to 2-3 patterns fit in an envelope per NZ Post requirements. Additional charges may apply for more.
Patterns included in other orders will attract the applicable postage fee.
Free Shipping on Orders Over $100: Orders over $100 (excluding postage) are sent free within New Zealand.
Courier Delivery: We primarily use NZ Post’s courier service. If using a different courier, we will advise you. Courier delivery is only to physical addresses, not PO Boxes or Private Bags. RD addresses are serviced but typically without a signature.
Courier Instructions: Include a note with your order if you want the package left without a signature. For example, "Please leave at back door."
Exceptions: For remote areas like the Chatham Islands and Hauraki Islands, we use NZ Post. The same $8.00 flat rate applies.
Local Pick Up: Currently, we are an online store only.
Payment: Orders are sent once payment has cleared.
Postage rates for Australian orders differ from New Zealand rates.
Letters:
Letter rate charges vary based on pattern size. For example, By Annie patterns are NZ$4.30, while Elizabeth Hartman patterns are NZ$5.60.
Patterns have a 200g weight limit for standard shipping. Anything over 200g is classified as a parcel, and NZPost rates will apply.
Parcels:
For orders exceeding the 200g letter rate limit, please contact us directly for a shipping quote to Australia.
Additional Information:
All orders are processed in New Zealand dollars. Payment requests are generated via PayPal, but a PayPal account is not required.
We use NZ Post to send orders to Australia.
Courier options are available upon request.
